More news about: Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The No. 12 ranked College at Brockport football team continued their dominance on Saturday evening, blowing by Hartwick College 45-0 on homecoming weekend to move to 7-0 on the season (5-0 Empire 8). The Golden Eagles set a new program mark for sacks in a game, with seven players combining for 12 sacks.

Quarterback Joe Germinerio had another terrific performance, throwing for 259 yards and four touchdowns, three of which were 40 yards or more.DaQuan Hubbard was his top target today, catching three balls for 140 yards and a pair of touchdowns of 79 and 52 yards, respectively.

Jerry Thompson had a 42 yard touchdown reception late in the second quarter, juking multiple defenders on his way to the end zone for his first TD grab of the season. Joseph Ortiz was the third receiver to catch a pass from Germinerio in the end zone, snagging the 15-yard reception in the first quarter to put the Golden Eagles up 17-0.

Christian Hollister was the leading rusher for Brockport in this contest, netting 77 yards on nine carries, including a two-yard touchdown scamper in the third quarter. His biggest rush of the day came in the third quarter when he took a handoff from Germinerio and hit a huge gap in the defense for a 41 yard run.

Tyree Brown had three rushes from the "wildcat" formation for 49 yards, while Camron Abalos, Germinerio, Jason HellwigJustin Morrison, and Dan Hogan all picked up yards on the ground this afternoon.

Defensively, the Golden Eagles pitched their second shutout of the season, having blanked Ithaca College earlier in the year. Matt Szymanski was the leading tackler, recording 10 total tackles including three for a loss. He was one of four players that sacked the quarterback twice, being joined by Julius MizroJosh Greenwood, and Nathaniel Keith IIIAlex WestAustin Dean, and Jason Karteron all had sacks in the game as well.

The Golden Eagles, which rank in the top-20 nationally in interceptions, recorded three more tonight, putting their season total at 14 (two per-game). Matt AritaJulius Brunson, and Jake O'Connell were responsible for the picks. O'Connell's interception was his fourth of the season, which he returned 65 yards for the touchdown, giving the Golden Eagles a 10-0 lead early in the first.

The Brockport rushing defense ranked second in the nation coming into this game, and did not disappoint today, as the Hawks finished with -50 yards on the ground. Hartwicks 167 yards of total offense was their lowest total since week six of the 2012 season when they were held to 142 against Salisbury University.

On the flip side, the Golden Eagle offense, which came into the game ranked sixth in the country in total offense, put up 500 yards for the fourth time this season, split evenly between the rush (241 yards), and passing (259 yards).

Brockport will hit the road next week, traveling to Buffalo State for a 12 p.m. game before their final home game of the regular season on November 4th when they take on Alfred University for senior day, beginning at noon.
