More news about: Rochester

Dakota Harvey and Joe Letizia combined for 332 yards rushing and five touchdowns as visiting Hobart College defeated the University of Rochester, 51-12, at Edwin Fauver Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Harvey rushed for a game-high 207 yards on 14 carries and scored three TDs. Letizia had 125 yards rushing on 11 tries and scored twice. Hobart rolled up 507 yards in offense, 364 on the ground.

Ryan Hofmann completed 11 of 24 passes for 143 yards and one TD. He was intercepted once. His touchdown pass came early in the second quarter – a nine-yarder to Joseph Barrocas that increased Hobart's lead to 21-0.

Placekicker Kyle Hackett made six of seven PATs and added a 32-yard field goal.

Hobart finished the regular season with a 7-3 record, 3-2 in the Liberty League. Rochester ended 2-7, 0-5 in the league.  The Statesmen kept possession of the Centennial Cup, the annual trophy in the rivalry. Hobart has won the Cup 10 times in 11 games since it originated in 2007 to commemorate the 100th game between the Upstate New York colleges.

Rochester quarterback Josh Brown completed 17 of 27 passes for 140 yards, one interception, and two touchdowns. He threw a 26-yard scoring pass to Connor Byrne midway through the third quarter (30-6 Hobart) and a 16-yarder to Dan Bronson early in the fourth (37-12 Hobart).

The Yellowjackets totaled 264 yards in offense – 124 on the grounder, 140 through the air. Bronson rushed 12 times for 48 yards and Jason Cunningham gained 43 yards on 13 tries.  Bronson caught seven passes for 77 yards, including the TD.

Both teams combined to commit seven turnovers. Each squad threw an interception. Rochester lost four fumbles, Hobart lost one.

Defensively for the Statesmen, Jayson Prince had nine tackles (seven solo) including one sack. Brandon Ball had nine tackles, one 11-yard sack, another TL for loss, forced one fumble, blocked a PAT, and had three QU hurries.

Josh Churchin had 12 tackles for Rochester (seven solo), including 1.5 tackles for loss. Austin Carr had 11 tackles (five solo) plus one pas breakup.

Hobart struck early. After a short Rochester punt set up Hobart at its own 49, Hofmann threw a flea-flicker to Ray Conley down the right sideline for 44 yards. That put the ball on the UR 7 and Letizia rushed for the score on the next play.

Rochester had a chance to get even after its next possession. Paul Mokrzycki punted to the Hobart 38 where HC's Mike Giacobbe muffed the return. UR's Noah Barnard fell on it at the Hobart 30.  Zackary Robak disrupted two running plays by Rochester and on third down from the HC 29, Ball sacked Brown for an 11 yard loss.

Hobart drove 51 yards in five plays for a 14-0 lead at the end of one. Harvey ran 37 yards for the score. Rochester fumbled the kick return to start the second quarter and six plays later, Hofmann threw his TD pass to Barrocas. It was 21-0 at halftime.
