BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The No. 10 ranked College at Brockport football team has another home NCAA football game this weekend, welcoming the 13th ranked Wesley College Wolverines.
DATE – TIME: November 25th, 2017 – 12 p.m.
LOCATION: Bob Boozer Field – Brockport, N.Y.
Brockport won their program-record 11th game in the NCAA Opening Round last weekend, setting multiple records in the process. The 66-0 win over Plymouth State was the largest margin of victory for a game in the Golden Eagles storied history, and just happened to come on the biggest stage, the NCAA Tournament.
The offense rushed for 304 yards, putting the season total at 2,431, which broke the previous team rushing record set in 2013. It also put the team at 438 points for the season, which surpassed last year's 409 point mark. The 5,266 yards of total offense shattered the previous record set in 2013 (4,793), and the rushing defense is in a good spot to break the program record for fewest yards in a season, as they've allowed just 264 yards on the ground this year.
With his 12-point day on Saturday, Brett Renzi broke the school record for most points scored from kicking in a career, accounting for 158 points during his time at Brockport. DaQuan Hubbard is now third all-time in receiving yards in a season, and needs just 68 more to move into first in that category. Joe Germinerio's 316 passing yards last weekend moved him into second for passing yards in a season, trailing only Joe Scibilia who threw for 3,104 in 2012.
The Green and Gold have enjoyed every moment of this historic season so far, but now set their eyes ahead as they'll face a tough opponent in Wesley, the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Champions. The Wolverines are 10-1 on the season, and are no strangers to the NCAA Championship Playoffs, as this is their 13th straight appearance in the "big dance".
Brockport will look to break a 3-3 series tie with the Wolverines, having played six times in the early 2000's. They squared off in 2002, the last time Brockport won an NCAA Playoff game, with the Golden Eagles coming out on top 17-7. Their largest margin of victory against Wesley came at home in 2005, when they rolled to a 48-0 win.
Statistically, they match up well with Wesley this season, setting higher marks in passing and rushing yards, passing efficiency, time of possession, scoring, interceptions, sacks, total defense, and points allowed.
Another win this weekend would send Brockport to the NCAA Quarterfinals where they'd face the winner of Delaware Valley and Husson. The team has only advanced to the quarterfinals once in 2002, when they lost in a tough defensive battle against John Carroll University, 16-10.
