SJU (11-2) jumped on the scoreboard first with 6:57 left in the opening quarter when Joe Rotondi kicked a 21-yard field goal. The Johnnies increased their lead in the second quarter when Chris Moore scored on a three-yard run. The extra-point attempt failed and the Johnnies led 9-0. With 2:33 left before intermission, Jacob Craft scored on a 4-yard TD run for the Lutes (11-1). Brian Zirbes blocked PLU's extra-point attempt and the Johnnies led 9-6 at halftime.
After a scoreless third quarter, the Lutes scored the game-winning TD by Brown. The TD was set up by a return of 61 yards by Tim Lax after a SJU fumble on PLU's 21-yard line. The two-point conversion attempt failed and the Lutes led 12-9. PLU then added an insurance TD with 4:39 left in the game on a three-yard run by Anthony Hicks. Scott Sarrenson's extra-point made the final score 19-9.
PLU outgained SJU 230 to 185 yards in total offense. SJU was held to 46 yards passing on only four completions in 15 attempts. The Johnnies had four turnovers, compared to two for the Lutes.
Chris Moore rushed for 87 yards on 29 attempts and one TD. For PLU, Anthony Hicks had 141 yards rushing on 17 carries.
PLU will travel to Trinity (Texas) next Saturday for a NCAA Division III national semifinal game. SJU finishes the season with an 11-2 overall record.
