Dominating the rushing game, the Mustangs ran for a total of 144 yards to the Beavers' 23. Ken Sather led Southwest State with 20 carries for 122 yards. The Beavers had only one double-digit rusher in Craig Rowedder, who ran for 17 yards on 12 carries.
The Beavers's quarterbacking duo of Eric Jamison and Eric Wiebers out-passed the Mustangs in the air, throwing for 285 yards to SWS' 246. Jamison threw for 103 yards, completing eight of 16 passes, with one interception, while backup Wiebers connected on 11 of 23 passes for 182 yards, with two interceptions.
Josh Espinosa was on the receiving end of nine passes for a total of 156 yards to lead the receiving corps.
Defensively for the Beavers, Troy Nielsen paced the squad with eight tackles and two sacks. Scott Jamison, Michael Lang, and Matt Mullen each recorded five, along with a sack by Mullen.
The Beavers are now 0-1 on the season and are off until Sept. 21 when they travel to Indianola to start the Iowa Conference season against Simpson.
