October 5, 2016 Alvernia adding football Alvernia University, a Division III school in Reading, Pa., has announced it is joining the ranks of Division III football-sponsoring programs starting in the fall of 2018. Barring other changes, that would bring the number of schools sponsoring Division III football that year to 251.
