Offense QB Adam King, Sr., Howard Payne
King was 37-for-58 passing for 512 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions
in a 58-45 win against No. 21 East Texas Baptist. He also ran 24 times
for 83 yards and another score.
OL LT Kyle Lackscheide,
LG Josh Van Laan, C Mike Pfeister, RG Al Olds, RT Jeff Iciek, Olivet
This starting offensive line blocked for Olivet's rushing attack in Saturday's
78-21 win against Ohio Wesleyan, which broke the NCAA Division III record
with 670 yards. The Comets had a school-record 695 yards of total offense
and 33 first downs.
RB Jerrold Jones,
Jr., Trinity (Texas)
Jones rushed 14 times for 171 yards and two touchdowns in the first half,
as Trinity built a 30-0 lead over Redlands. His 90-yard touchdown run
in the second quarter was the longest rush from scrimmage in Tiger football
history. He finished with 17 carries for 215 yards, a 12.6-yard average.
RB Scott Froelich,
Sr., Westminster (Pa.)
Froelich broke the school record for rushing yards in a game, rolling
up 254 yards on 34 carries, a 7.5-yard average. He scored four touchdowns
in the 41-22 win against Hiram.
WR Casey Allen,
Jr., Linfield
Allen had a career-high 13 catches for 151 yards and two touchdowns in
a 46-35 win at UW-Stevens Point.
WR Nick Cushman,
Sr., Albright
Cushman had three touchdowns in the first half as the Lions scored 35
points in the second quarter and went on to beat Ursinus 51-35. He finished
with nine catches for 155 yards and three scores.
WR Earl Morris,
Sr., East Texas Baptist
Morris set a school record with 276 receiving yards on 10 catches and
had three scores in a 58-45 loss to Howard Payne.
Defense
DL Bob Ziegler, Sr., Dickinson
Ziegler had six tackles, including 2½ sacks, and returned his own
forced fumble 15 yards for the game-clinching touchdown. The Red Devil
defense held the Mariners to just 218 total yards and forced six turnovers
in a 24-14 win against Kings Point.
DL Luke Scarborough,
Sr., Thomas More
Scarborough's day included three tackles for loss, two sacks and two other
quarterback hurries. On one of his sacks, he caused the fumble that led
to a Thomas More touchdown that gave the Saints a 10-point lead.
DL Chris Purtell,
Sr., Hobart
Purtell had a strong defensive outing, totaling 18 tackles (eight solo),
including two for a loss against Franklin and Marshall this past weekend.
He also forced a fumble and recovered a fumble for the Statesmen.
LB Todd Dietrich,
Jr., Lebanon Valley
Dietrich tied a team-high with six tackles, including five solo stops,
and made a key interception in Lebanon Valley's 3-0 win against Widener.
With less than four minutes remaining, Dietrich intercepted a pass deep
in Widener territory to help maintain field position.
LB Matt Jackson,
Sr., Rose-Hulman
Jackson returned an interception 77 yards for a touchdown and recorded
a safety to help lead Rose-Hulman to a 23-3 win against Concordia (Ill.).
Jackson's interception return on Concordia's first drive of the game gave
the Engineers a 14-0 lead, then his safety provided the first points of
the second half and a 16-3 edge. Jackson recorded a team-high nine tackles,
including two tackles-for-loss.
LB Michael Irvin,
Sr., Buena Vista
Irvin anchored the Beaver defense that held fifth-ranked Wartburg to less
than half its season offensive average (221 yards) in a 17-14 victory.
Irvin had 15 total tackles, including nine solo, and also recorded two
tackles for loss as Buena Vista defeated Wartburg for the first time since
1997 and for the first time at home since 1988.
LB
Brandon Ehret, Jr., UW-Platteville
Ehret had nine tackles (seven solo) a game-changing interception as the
Pioneers stopped NCAA Division I-AA non-scholarship Drake 33-23. With
the Pioneers ahead 20-17, Ehret picked off a pass and returned the ball
61 yards to the Bulldog 9. Three players later, the Pioners scored for
a 10-point advantage. Ehret had three tackles for loss and two quarterback
sacks, broke up three passes, and forced a late fumble which the Pioneers
recovered. UWP ran out the final 3:06 of the game to seal the victory.
DB Anthony Venturino,
So., Utica
Venturino made 17 tackles (eight solo) and intercepted two passes as Utica
held 17th-ranked RPI to one touchdown in a 9-7 upset win. Venturino broke
up two passes. His final interception came with 1:14 left to play to seal
the victory and put the Pioneers over the .500 mark for the first time
in school history.
DB Kyle Grimes,
So., Elmhurst
Grimes, who played quarterback last season, continued his hot start to
the season. He busted up six pass plays and intercepted two passes to
go along with four solo tackles in Elmhurst's 39-27 win against Chicago.
He has at least one interception in each game this season and has picked
off four passes in just three games.
DB Wes Hostetler,
Jr., Ohio Northern
Hostetler had two interceptions for 44 yards and recorded nine tackles,
including seven solo stops against Baldwin-Wallace. Hostetler also racked
up 135 all-purpose yards.
DB Clay Matchett,
Sr., Louisiana College
Matchett broke a Louisiana College record with 21 tackles in a game (seven
solo). He also added a fumble recovery to help stop a Hardin-Simmons drive,
and he prevented another score with an interception in the LC end zone.
Special teams K Garrett
Wales, Jr., Linfield
Wales was perfect on five extra-point attmpts and hit a 48-yard field
goal, the longest attempt of his career, in a 46-35 win at UW-Stevens
Point.
P Dan Eggertsson,
Sr., Franklin and Marshall
Eggertsson, who made the team last week as a placekicker, averaged 49.2
yards per punt on four punts in a 35-10 win against Hobart. He also had
a partially blocked punt go for 47 yards, although blocked punts are not
counted against an individual's average.
RET Marcus Washington,
Jr., Bridgewater (Va.)
Although Hanover consistently kicked away from him, Washington got his
hands on one kickoff and returned it 90 yards for a touchdown. He's averaging
68.6 yards on three returns.
