McMurry athletic director Sam Ferguson announced that Lance Hinson has resigned his position as the university's head football coach. Hinson's resignation is effective immediately.
"Coach Hinson led our young men for five seasons and guided us through a difficult time in our history, helping us navigate back to full NCAA Division III membership," Ferguson said. "We are grateful for what he poured into our program and the favorable impact he made on the lives of hundreds of young men who represented us during his tenure. We appreciate him and wish him and his family well in their future endeavors."
McMurry went 14-35 under Hinson, 12-27 over the past four years since returning to Division III from Division II.
Ferguson said that a search for a new head coach will begin immediately, with a goal of completing the process by early December. The ultimate priority for the search is to identify a head coach who will provide an exceptional experience for the scholar-athletes, while also reflecting the values of the University and department.
"We are embarking on a search to identify a proven coach who has the ability to propel our scholar-athletes toward their goals, both academically and athletically," Ferguson said. "The focus of our committee is to attract a head coach who will offer an exceptional experience for our scholar-athletes. The successful candidate will also have an interest in promoting success in the classroom, on the field, and in life in general. It is our intention to have the team involved in the interview process and provide them an opportunity to share their feedback."
