HCAC Coordinator of Football Officials, Larry Snyder, Set to Retire

GREENWOOD, IN — Larry Snyder, the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference’s coordinator of football officials, announced he will retire following the 2012 season.

Snyder took the position overseeing the football officials in December of 2003 after retiring as an official for the Mid American Conference in 2000.

During his nine-year tenure in the HCAC, Snyder has been responsible for the hiring, training, assignment and evaluation of officials. Snyder has also conducted an officials teaching clinic annually.

“Larry has provided outstanding leadership during my five years as commissioner,” said HCAC Commissioner Chris Ragsdale.  “His greatest contributions have come in his efforts to recruit, retain and educate HCAC football officials.  For his outstanding work the conference honored Larry in August at the football official’s clinic by presenting him with the Hemminger – Hinga – Ransom Award.  This award was established by the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference in 2002 to recognize excellence, exceptional service and leadership in NCAA Division III College football.”

The native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, attended Grand Rapids Central High School, and graduated from the University of Michigan in 1965.

He was a NCAA Division I official in the Big West and Mid American Conference’s and worked as a clock operator for the Big Ten Conference.

“The past nine years have been a great experience and have given me the opportunity to meet many great people,’’ Snyder said. “The conference coaches and officials are a great group of guys who are very dedicated to Division III football. In addition, I have been fortunate to work for two great commissioners who gave me their total support throughout my tenure, and for that, I am grateful."

Larry currently resides in Indianapolis, Indiana with his wife Kay.

The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference will begin an immediate search for Snyder’s replacement.
