Freeland, Mich. - Senior Terry Calagon (Jackson, Mich./East Jackson) and sophomore Ryan Maguire (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven), members of the Alma College football team, received Player of the Week honors from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association for their play against Kalamazoo on Saturday (Oct. 17), the league announced today.

Calagon was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week after posting 11 tackles, including a career-high three sacks, in the 36-27 win over the Hornets. Calagon, who received the honor for the second time this season, was also credited with a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Calagon ranks fourth in NCAA Division III this season with 14.5 tackles for loss, including 8.5 sacks to rank fifth nationally. In addition, Calagon's three forced fumbles is sixth-best in Division III.

Maguire received Special Teams Player of the Week accolades after converting all three of his field goal attempts, including a career-long 31-yarder to close out the first half and help the Scots take the lead for the rest of the game. Maguire also successfully made 24- and 26-yard field goals in the first half.

So far this season, an Alma football player has been recognized as Player of the Week on five occasions. Calagon was named Defensive Player of the Week following the win over Rockford on September 19, while sophomore Zac Peterson (Holt, Mich./Holt) and junior Nick Sullivan(Flushing, Mich./Flint Powers Catholic) earned Defensive and Offensive Player of the Week honors, respectively, after the loss to Trine on October 4.

The Scots (3-3 overall, 1-2 MIAA) snapped an eight-game losing streak in MIAA games with the win over Kalamazoo, and also pushed their record in home night contests to 3-0 all-time with the victory. Alma travels to Hope College on Saturday, Oct. 24, to take on the Flying Dutch. Kickoff is slated for 6:00 p.m. at the Ray & Sue Smith Stadium in Holland, Mich.
