Manchester University announces 2017 team honors

A pair of seniors spotlighted individual honors during Manchester University's post-season banquet Sunday, Dec. 3.

Special teams and wide receiver standout Dakota Nelson (Fairland, Ind.) was named Offensive and Overall Most Valuable Player. Adding the honors to an already-full cadre for the 2017 campaign which included first-team all-North Region by D3Football.com; Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Year; and first team all-HCAC. Nelson wrapped up his slate ranking among NCAA Division III's statistical top 10 in kickoff return touchdowns (2 – No. 2); combined kick return yardage (1,025 – No. 3); kickoff return yardage per attempt (28.6 – No. 6); and all-purpose yardage per game (190.1). He also hauled in 54 passes for 643 yards and seven touchdowns; rushed for 233 yards and one score on 48 tries; and threw for two touchdown passes as part of a two-for-four aerial effort.

Classmate Jack Kay (Williamsport, Ind.) garnered Defensive Most Valuable Player honors. A second-team all-HCAC awardee, Kay was the squad's leader in tackles (43 solo – 33 assisted – 76 total) of which three that went for opponent losses to go along with two forced fumbles.

Remaining team awards went to the following individuals – Special Teams Most Valuable Player – Loche Daiss, sr., Sheridan, Ind.; Defensive Skill – Dillon Nelson, jr., Fairland, Ind.; Defensive Line – Jacob Cooper, jr., Fairland, Ind.; Offensive Skill – Donovan Henderson, so., Hollywood, Fla.; Offensive Line – Eric Beard, sr., Findlay, Ohio; and Gold Squad Most Valuable Player – Tristan Chester, jr., Charlestown, Ind.
