Muntean to Take Part in National Pro Day & Scouting Combine at Widener, Second CFL Open Tryout in Coming Weeks

More news about: Wooster

The College of Wooster's Gary Muntean will be among the small college student-athletes taking part in next Wednesday's National Pro Day & Scouting Combine at Widener University's Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium in Chester, Pa.

Arena scouts are slated to be on site to time the participants, and the event is expecting at least one Canadian Football League (CFL) scout and three arena head coaches to be in attendance. Times from the event are sent to over 350 NFL and CFL scouts and nearly 800 agents. The pro day is mainly a timing event.

Muntean's already attended the open tryout for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, and he's also planning on attending the Calgary Stampeders' open tryout on April 8. Both teams play in the CFL's West Division.

Muntean turned in one of the top offensive seasons in the history of Wooster's storied football program, and in doing so, became the third Fighting Scot to earn the North Coast Athletic Conference's Mike Gregory Award, an honor bestowed annually to the league's top offensive player. The Poland, Ohio native was elevated to the all-conference first team after earning honorable mention honors as a junior. The signal caller led the NCAC in nearly every passing category, completing 220-of-337 passing attempts for 3,165 yards and 33 touchdowns, with the yards and touchdowns ranking at the top of Wooster's single-season record book. Additionally, Muntean's completions and attempts from his senior year trail only his 2016 single-season program benchmarks of 234 and 386.

Muntean's 65.3 completion percentage and 172.3 passing efficiency points were league-bests in 2017, as well as single-season program records. The senior's 3,556 yards of total offense topped the 3,140 he logged as a junior, and the standout turned in five games with at least four passing touchdowns, and seven games with at least four total (passing and rushing) touchdowns this past fall.

For his career, Muntean finished as the program's all-time leader in offensive yards (9,041), passing yards (8,295), passing touchdowns (65), passing efficiency points (145.6), and completion percentage (62.1; 637-of-1,026).
