Ithaca Schedule for Upcoming 2018 Season Now Available

Coming off an 8-3 campaign, which culminated with a 27-17 comeback win over Salisbury University in the ECAC Scotty Whitelaw Bowl, the Ithaca College football team is excited to build on its success from a season ago under second-year head coach Dan Swanstrom. Ithaca also earned a share of the Liberty League regular season title with a 4-1 league record in the Bombers' inaugural season of affiliation.

The 2017 Bombers were a vast improvement from the year prior, as IC won three more games, averaged nearly five more points per game and 110 yards a contest, allowed four fewer points per outing and held their opposition to 44 fewer yards.

Ithaca will once again take on a 10-game slate, which is set to begin on Sept. 1 at 1 p.m. against St. Vincent College at Butterfield Stadium. The season opener will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools. St. Vincent, from Latrobe, Pa., is coming off a 2-8 season in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. The Bearcats reinstated football in 2006 after 42 seasons without a program. St. Vincent sponsored football from 1923-62 before it was discontinued.

The following Saturday, Sept. 8, IC will host a familiar foe in The College at Brockport (23-11-2 all-time record) at 1 p.m. Brockport is coming off its most successful season in program history, as the Golden Eagles went 13-1 and reached the NCAA Semifinals, where they fell to No. 1 Mary Hardin-Baylor. Brockport finished the season ranked No. 5 in the nation and defeated IC, 31-0, early on in 2017.

Ithaca will then hit the road for two straight weeks as the Bombers travel to Alfred University on Sept. 15 and St. John Fisher College on Sept. 22. IC dropped a 20-17 decision to the Saxons in the 2017 opener and defeated Fisher, 35-10, during Hall of Fame Weekend on South Hill.

After a bye week, the Bombers welcome Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute to Butterfield on Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. and will look to avenge their lone Liberty League loss from 2017, which went to RPI, 27-14. The contest will mark the 2018 Liberty League opener for both teams.

On Oct. 13, IC travels to Union College for a 1 p.m. kickoff and then returns back to South Hill for games against the University of Rochester (Oct. 20) and St. Lawrence University (Oct. 27). Ithaca defeated all three teams last season. The Bombers topped Union, 20-3, dropped Rochester, 46-6, in the first-ever meeting between the two schools and took down St. Lawrence, 24-13, which was the first victory for Swanstrom.

Ithaca closes out the season with road games at Hobart College and SUNY Cortland. The Bombers make the short trip to Geneva on Nov. 3 for a 1 p.m. kickoff and conclude the regular season with the 60th Cortaca Jug Game in Cortland at 12 p.m. on Nov. 10. IC beat Hobart last season, 24-21, and snapped its seven-year losing streak to Cortland in convincing fashion, 48-20.
