Allegheny has accepted the resignation of head coach Blair Hrovat, who confirmed reports that he has not completed all requirements for his bachelors degree from Edinboro University, contrary to his resume. 

Allegheny had removed Hrovat's bio from its Web site Wednesday morning, June 12, before releasing its statement.

Calls to Hrovat's office for comment by D3football.com were not returned and an inquiry to his personal e-mail address bounced back because the mailbox was full.

"He did not graduate from Edinboro University," Edinboro spokesman Brian Pitzer told the Meadville Tribune. "He attended classes from the fall of 1981 to the spring of 1986. He took classes as late as 1990."

"I regret that a talented coach has made a serious mistake," Allegheny president Richard J. Cook said in a statement Thursday morning. "I wish Blair Hrovat and his family every success.

"We will act as promptly as we can to fill the head coaching position. I feel an obligation ... to develop a well-conceived plan of succession for the head football coach. It is simply too soon to announce today what that plan will be."

Hrovat compiled a 26-14 record in four seasons as Gators coach. He replaced Ken O'Keefe, who had Allegheny in the national spotlight with a 79-10-1 record, six trips to the playoffs and the 1990 national title. Hrovat took over a team that went 9-1, with its only loss to eventual national champion Mount Union, then went 8-2, 6-4, 7-3 and 5-5 in four seasons.
