Vince Kehres, head coach at Mount Union for the past seven seasons, will be taking an as-yet-undefined defensive assistant coaching position at Division I Toledo.
The move was first announced by The Blade, in Toledo.
Mount Union confirmed that Kehres had taken a position at Toledo.
In addition, longtime athletic director and former coach Larry Kehres, will be taking a buyout and leaving the school at the end of the school year, according to Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Vince Kehres, the two-time D3football.com Coach of the Year, will be joining the staff under former Mount Union player Jason Candle. Candle and Kehres were assistant coaches together under Larry Kehres, who was head coach for 11 of the Purple Raiders' 13 Division III football national championships. The elder Kehres stepped down as head coach after the 2012 season and remains athletic director at Mount Union.
Under Vince Kehres, the Purple Raiders compiled a 95-6 mark, with a .941 winning percentage, including two national championships in seven seasons. Mount Union exited the 2019 playoffs in the second round, losing to eventual national champion North Central, 59-52.
Mount Union will conduct a search for its next football coach, according to a news release, saying, "the institution expects to get the search underway promptly in order to ensure a smooth transition and continue its tradition of excellence."
