EJ White has been named the interim head coach of the Westminster (Pa.) football program for the upcoming season, athletic director Jason Lener announced on Wednesday, March 25.
"Hiring a new football coach is a significant decision that affects more than 125 student-athletes, as well as our coaching staff and support personnel. Conducting a search in the spring presents challenges and limits the time available to make a thoughtful hire," said Lener. "After careful consideration of what is in the best interest of our student-athletes and the long-term success of the program, I decided to appoint Coach White as our interim coach for the 2026 season."
White steps into the role following the departure of Scott Benzel, who accepted an offensive analyst position at Duke in late February.
"I am incredibly honored to have the opportunity to lead the Westminster football program this fall. I want to thank president (Kathy) Richardson and Jason Lener for allowing me the privilege to continue to be a part of the Westminster family," said White. "This is a special place--it truly reflects what Division III football is all about. I am looking forward to helping strengthen the great tradition of Titan football, developing student-athletes, competing for championships and making our alumni and community proud."
In 2025 Westminster's red zone offense ranked No. 5 in Division III (.930), its scoring offense ranked No. 33 (37.0) and its rushing offense ranked No. 58 (177.5). Freshman quarterback Quentin Goode was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Offensive Rookie of Year in December after he was tapped as the Presidents' Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year and honorable mention All-PAC selection in November. He started the final six games of the regular season, completing 111 of 178 passes (.624) for 1,557 yards.
White was named Westminster's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach last February. He arrived in New Wilmington with five years of experience coordinating offenses, spending a season as offensive coordinator at Edinboro (2024) under former Westminster assistant Jake Nulph. He has also directed the offenses at Husson (2021-24) and Webber International University (2017-18). White has extensive experience working with quarterbacks and wide receivers, coaching the positions at Monmouth (2018-21). A native of St. Cloud, Florida, and 2009 graduate of St. Cloud High School, White is a national recruiter with deep ties to central and northeast Florida.
In 2014 White earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from St. Francis (Ill.). A two-time (2011, 2013) National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics All-American and three-time (2010-11, 2013) All-Mid-States Football Association selection, White, a quarterback and two-time team captain with the Saints, was voted the MSFA's Player of the Year following the 2011 season. He ranks No. 5 in the NAIA in total offense with 12,980 total yards and holds every single-season and career passing record at St. Francis, where he eclipsed 10,000 career passing yards and threw for 103 touchdowns and rushed for over 2,900 career yards. Whte started every game of his career with the Saints.
White played three years of first division international football for Sweden's Uppsala 86ers (2014) in the Super Series, the Marburg Mercenaries (2015) in the German Football League (GFL) and Poland's Wroclaw Panthers (2016), a member of the TipLiga (Poland Division) and International Federation of American Football (IFAF)'s Europe Champions League (ECL). During his stops in Uppsala and Marburg, White also served as offensive coordinator. With Wroclaw in 2016, he was named MVP of the Panthers' 40-37 IFAF ECL title game win over Italy's Milano Seamen after throwing for 345 yards and six touchdowns while rushing for another 103 yards.
"Since joining Westminster, Coach White has consistently demonstrated strong leadership, earned the trust of our student-athletes and shown a clear understanding of our program and departmental values. I am confident he will provide stability and continuity during this transition," said Lener. "He and the coaching staff will have my full support as we prepare for the 2026 season."
Westminster wrapped up its 2025 season with an 8-3 record, posting a 40-21 victory over Mount St. Joseph in the Extra Points Bowl on Nov. 22 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio. The Titans will open their season Thursday, Sept. 3 at Marietta. Kickoff from Don Drumm Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
