Albright Routs FDU, 52-7

More news about: Albright

The Albright College football team came within a fourth quarter special teams touchdown of shutting out FDU-Florham for the second straight year, finishing off a 52-7 decision over the Devils on Saturday.

Senior Drew Peterson intercepted two passes and returned one for a touchdown. It was his second multi-interception game of the season, fourth of his career, and the third straight year he has returned a pick-six.

Quarterback TJ Luddy was efficient for the second straight week, completing 17-of-23 passes for 212 yards, 2 TDs and no interceptions. Senior Daniel McNair (8 catches, 81 yards, TD) was the Red and White's top receiver once again.

Senior Ty Hughes rushed for 76 yards on 16 carries, and classmate Uriah Brickhouse totaled 67 yards on just eight rushes (an average of 8.4 yards per carry). Both reached the end zone once.

The Lions took just five plays to score on the game's opening drive. McNair caught a pass down to the five yard line and Hughes carried it over for a 7-0 advantage.

FDU missed a pair of field goals in the first quarter, with Sean Gavin pushing a 40-yard attempt just wide and former All-Region special teamer Matthew Hnatiuk blocking a 24-yard try.

Brickhouse scampered for 19 yards on the final play of the first quarter, and McNair made a great one-on-one catch in the end zone for a 14-0 Albright lead.

Peterson's fourth interception of the season gave the Lions back the ball late in the second quarter. Luddy found Griffin Eldridge for 11 yards as the Red and White reached the one yard line in the final minute. The senior QB then fooled everyone for a bootleg, giving Albright a 21-0 halftime advantage.

The Lions would outscore FDU 24-0 in the third quarter, starting with Peterson's 60 yard interception return off a deflected pass. Junior Chris Stephens got a hand on the ball, and he would grab an INT of his own later in the third.

Luddy hit Eric Wade for 30 yards to make it 35-0, and Brickhouse ran it in from 10 yards out for a 42-0 lead.

Late in the third quarter, Matt Pattison forced a fumble and fellow fifth-year senior JT Harding recovered it deep in FDU territory to set up a Sobolewski field goal and a 45-0 scoreline that matched last season's Albright win over the Devils.

The Red and White lost their shutout in the final period however, as Mike Brown blocked Luddy's punt and recovered it in the end zone for the only points FDU would manage on Homecoming weekend.

Sophomore quarterback Pat Wise got some snaps late in the game and hit tight end Darrin Kline for a late 29-yard TD to close out the scoring.

Mike Mancino had 11 tackles for FDU-Florham. Former Lion Craig Kimbrough had 94 all-purpose yards- 50 rushing and 44 receiving in the Devils' hurry-up, option offense.

Albright improves to 3-2, 2-2 MAC and has its bye week coming up.
