Thomas More Scores 42 Unanswered Points to Defeat Geneva, 42-3

(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.)  – The Thomas More College football team scored 42 unanswered points to defeat Geneva College, 42-3, today (Saturday, October 11, 2014) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at Reeves Field in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania.

With the win, the Saints improve to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the PAC.  With the loss, the Golden Tornadoes fall to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the PAC.

Thomas More led 14-3 after one quarter, 35-3 at halftime and after three quarters.

Geneva took an early 3-0 lead when Mike Gardner connected on a 40-yard field goal with 9:07 to play in the first quarter.

Thomas More took a 7-3 lead with 5:26 to play in the first quarter when sophomore running back CT Tarrant (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hamilton (Ohio)) scored on a 14-yard touchdown run and junior place kicker Tommy Budke (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) added the point-after-attempt.

Tarrant scored on a two-yard run and Budke added the PAT to increase the Saints' lead to 14-3 with 14-seconds to play in the opening quarter.

The Saints extended the lead to 21-3 with 13:53 to play in the second quarter when junior quarterback Jensen Gebhardt (Kings Mills, Ohio/Kings) connected on a 39-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Goose Cohorn (Independence, Ky./Dixie Heights) and Budke added the PAT.

Junior wide receiver Tyler Vogelpohl (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) scored on a 40-yard touchdown pass from freshman quarterback Brenan Kuntz (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) and Budke added the PAT to increase the lead to 28-3 with 8:24 to play in the second quarter.

Thomas More took a 35-3 lead at halftime when Tarrant scored on a three-yard touchdown run and Budke added the PAT with 2:47 to play in the half.

The Saints closed out the scoring with 12:14 to play in the fourth quarter when sophomore running back Myron Fears, Jr. (Atlanta, Ga./Heritage) scored on a 10-yard run and Budke added the PAT for the 42-3 win.

Thomas More out-gained Geneva 497 yards (235 rushing/245 passing) to 170 yards (70 rushing/100 passing).

Tarrant led the team on the ground as he had 19 carries for 103 yards and three touchdowns, while he also caught one pass for five yards.  Fears finished the game with 16 carries for 81 yards and a touchdown.  Gebhardt was 17-of-31 passing for 202 yards and a touchdown, while Kuntz was three-of-four passing for 60 yards and one touchdown, while he also carried the ball four times for 23 yards.  Cohorn led the receiving corps with seven catches for 94 yards and a touchdown.

Junior defensive back Ian Gunn (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) led the team in tackles with 11 (10 solo, one assisted), including one tackles for a loss, while junior defensive end Erick Bulter (Eminence, Ky./Henry County) had six tackles (all solo), including two tackles for a loss.  Sophomore defensive back Lemuel Weyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) had four tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery and senior linebacker Jake Fishburn (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) had four tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception.

Thomas More returns home next Saturday (October 18) when it hosts Saint Vincent College on Homecoming at The Bank of Kentucky Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.  Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
