Football Team Celebrates 2014 Season with Annual Team Banquet

More news about: SUNY-Maritime

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – Following a season in which the Maritime football team had 10 All-Conference selections and one All-American, the Privateers celebrated the 2014 season on Thursday evening with their annual football banquet held in the Special Events Room on the SUNY Maritime campus.

"It was a great event to celebrate our student-athletes for their accomplishments both on and off the field," commented Head Football Coach Clayton Kendrick-Holmes. "I'd like to thank all those who attended, including our alums, family, and friends and all others for their continued support of Privateer Football."

Maritime began the evening by handing out its WARFACE Awards, to each student-athlete who exemplifies each of the characteristics of WARFACE. In addition, three players were selected as WARFACE Award Winners for encompassing all of the WARFACE aspects.

The team awards were next on the docket with the Offensive Attack, Defensive Attack and Special Teams (red hat) Players of the Year. That was followed by the Assistant Coach of the Year Award, and the Most-Improved Awards for offense, defense and special teams.

Up next was the Offensive Ax Award, given out to the player who knocked down the most defenders from the offensive side of the ball. Following that award was the Defensive Hammer award, given to the player who had the best tackles at the best times during the season.

In addition to the awards given out, the team also recognized its ECFC All-Conference and All-Academic Conference honorees, as well as the members of the team on the Admiral's and Dean's List at Maritime.

The major awards were up next as the team announced its Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Most Valuable Players. The alumni awards were up next as the John J. Pankovic Sportsmanship Award as well as the Coach Munsch Outstanding Achievement Award were given out next.

The night culminated with the team's Most Valuable Player being announced.
