ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The University of Rochester lost a hard fought battle Saturday, 27-21, to Alfred State College when the Pioneers put up a goalline stand in the final minute.
A 62 yard pass from Ryan Eamer to Dan Diaz landed a first and goal for Rochester with 1:03 remaining on the clock. After two incompletions, Rochester was stopped on a rushing attempt, leaving it 4th and goal on the Alfred State 3 yard line. Eamer's 4th down pass for Tyler Tanen was broken up by Alfred State's Andrew Pierre-Paul. It was Pierre-Paul's second breakup of the day and none could be more timely.
Both teams scored all of their points in the first half. Alfred State running back Trevor Carson had two short yardage touchdowns (three yards and five yards). Nick Wynter accompanied Carson in the rushing game with a 49 yard TD run. On the defensive side of the ball Alfred State's Kyle Campbell returned an interception for a score. Rochester had two long touchdown throws from Eamer to Noah Shinaman for scores as well as a 1 yard touchdown pass from Eamer to Robert Kollmer as time expired in the first half.
Eamer finished with 320 yards in the air, three touchdowns and two interceptions on 26 for 44 passing accuracy. Shinaman finished with four receptions for 89 yards and 2 touchdowns. Jason Cunningham led the Yellowjackets on the ground with 76 yards. Alfred State quarterback Dashown Wilson ran for a game high 108 yards on 19 carries. He completed eight of 15 passes for 102 yards.
