Today's Contest
Today is the sixth game of the 2024 season, the third road contest, and the fifth Ohio Athletic Conference game for the Baldwin Wallace University football team as it travels to nearby University Heights for the 36th Battle for the Cuyahoga Gold Bowl Trophy game and final OAC meeting against crosstown rival John Carroll University.  The Yellow Jackets defeated Otterbein University by a final score of 36-7 in a Hall of Fame game last Saturday in Berea.  Last Saturday, John Carroll defeated Capital University by a final score of 49-14 in the Shamrock Game.

The Series
BW and John Carroll have met 63 times on the gridiron. The Blue Streaks lead the all-time series 34-25-4. The series began in 1923 when John Carroll defeated BW, 19-13. Three notable names who have taken part in this series, BW graduate and College Football Hall of Famers Lee Tressel '48 and Jim Tressel '75 and John Carroll grad and Pro Football Hall of Famer Don Shula.

Cuyahoga Gold Bowl Trophy Series
John Carroll leads the Cuyahoga Gold Bowl Trophy series by a margin of 22-13, including winning 11 straight. The last Yellow Jacket victory came in the 2012 season when BW posted a 32-28 victory in University Heights. The Yellow Jackets scored 15 points in the final nine minutes to rally for the victory.

BW Head Coach Jim Hilvert
Hilvert is in his eighth  season at BW and has a record of 46-21 and Ohio Athletic Conference slate of 40-19. He is 113-47 in his 16th overall season. Hilvert is 1-8 all-time versus John Carroll.

John Carroll Head Coach Jeff Behrman
Behrman is in his second season at John Carroll and has a record of 11-4 and an OAC mark of 11-2. He is 53-24 in his seventh overall season.  

Last Game vs. John Carroll -- October 21, 2023
BW scored seven points on 100 yards passing  and 89  yards rushing for 189 total yards.  John Carroll scored 30 points on  302 yards passing and 102 yards rushing for 404 total yards.

Scouting the Yellow Jackets
In week five of the season, BW scored 36 points on 245 yards passing and 159 yards rushing for 404 total yards.  Otterbein scored seven points on 129 yards rushing and 72 yards rushing for 201 total yards.

BW Leaders
Offensively, sophomore quarterback Charlie Bubonics (Solon) has completed 106-of-143 passes for 1,127 yards with OAC leading 15 touchdowns. Bubonics also lead the OAC in completion percentage with .741.  Sophomore running back George Linberger (Barberton/St. Vincent-St. Mary) leads the ground game with 276 yards on 56 carries with one touchdown.  Junior wideout Tim Conwell (Avon) leads the team and is tied for fourth in the league with 25 receptions for  318 yards.  Conwell is tied for second in the conference with five touchdowns. Defensively, junior linebacker Dom Tromba (Painesville/Riverside) leads the team and is tied for 10th in the OAC with 35 tackles.

Scouting the Blue Streaks
In week of the five of the season, John Carroll scored 49 points on 342 yards rushing and 244 yards passing for 586 total yards.   Capital scored 14 points on 158 yards passing and 16 yards rushing for 174 total yards.

John Carroll Leaders
Offensively, senior quarterback Nick Semptimphelter has completed 99-of-135 passes for 1,177 yards with 12 touchdowns.  Sophomore running back Quincy Newsom has carried the ball 33 times for 221 yards and is tied for third in the OAC with six touchdowns. Junior running back Nehemiah Jenkins has rushed for 221 yards on 36 carries with two touchdowns.  Senior Tyren Montgomery has caught 20 passes for 344 yards with four touchdowns.  Defensively, senior Academic All-OAC linebacker Tyler Thimons leads the team and is fifth in the conference with 35 stops.
