The Lake Forest College football team dominated on both sides of the ball in a 66-0 victory over Ripon College at home on Saturday.
The Forester offense was led by senior quarterback Joshua Gasca, who completed 17 of 20 passes for 289 yards and seven touchdowns. His touchdown total and 321.88 pass efficiency rating on the day are new single-game program records while his .875 completion percentage ranks second in team annals.
Two of Gasca's touchdown passes went to graduate student A.J. Jackson, who led the home with six receptions for 144 yards and 113 rushing yards on nine carries. He now has 34 receiving touchdowns and 61 scores overall in his career and continues to rank second in school history in both categories. He also moved into second place in program history in career receptions with 173.
Senior wide receiver Tee Land also caught two touchdown passes, one for 24 yards and another for 10, and is now tied-for-fourth in team history with 19 in his career.
Gasca's other three scoring strikes went to junior wide receiver Tommy Carberry, who entered the contest with one receiving touchdown in his career. He accounted for the game's first points on a 17-yard reception, added a 5-yarder in the second quarter, and reached the end zone from 17 yards out again on Gasca's record-setter early in the fourth.
Eleven different Foresters had at least one rushing attempt and they combined for a season-high 322 yards and 8.0 yards per carry, the second-highest average in program history. Senior running back Mal Chunn scored on a 4-yard run in the second quarter and sophomore wide receiver Payton Ross scampered 14 yards for a touchdown to close out the scoring in the fourth.
Lake Forest's 618 total yards in the game are the program's eighth-highest total.
As dominating as the Foresters were on offense, they matched that performance on the defensive side of the ball. The Red Hawks gained just 96 yards on 46 plays and recorded eight first downs. Ten different players contributed to Lake Forest's nine tackles for loss in the contest.
Senior defensive back Nick Jako made a team-high six tackles and interceptions were turned in by fifth-year Trenton Brail, senior Dominic Lewis, and junior Dematris Azcueta. The Foresters now have 14 interceptions in seven games this year.
It was a busy day for Lake Forest freshman kicker John Shannon, who made all nine of his extra points and his first career field goal, a 23-yarder late in the second quarter. In seven games he already ranks tied-for-10th in program history with 38 career extra points while his season total is tied-for-fifth.
The victory was the seventh in as many contests for the Foresters and they remain tied atop the Midwest Conference standings at 6-0 in the league. Ripon fell to 2-5 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
Lake Forest will travel to Beloit College next Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
