WAYNESBURG, Pa. (November 2) – The Waynesburg University football team was defeated 51-0 by No. 13 Grove City at John F. Wiley Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Jackets saw their two-game winning streak come to an end move to 3-5 overall and in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play this season. Grove City keeps pace in the race for the PAC title at 7-1.

A 35-yard run by Zayne Cawley (Huntingtown, Md. / Huntingtown) helped the Jackets move to the Grove City 22 on the opening drive of the contest. However, a third down pass was tipped at the line, intercepted and returned 82 yards for a touchdown by the Wolverines' Caleb Brubaker.

Trialing 14-0, Waynesburg used a pass interference penalty and back-to-back completions for a combined 39 yards to Tyler Richmond (Carmichaels, Pa. / Carmichaels) and Isaac Trout (Ruffs Dale, Pa. / Southmoreland) to venture inside the Grove City 10. On third-and-six from the Wolverine seven yard-line, Waynesburg fumbled and Grove City pounced on the football to keep the Jackets off the scoreboard.

The Wolverines added two more touchdowns in the final 2:02 of the first half. Grove City marched 92 yards in 12 plays before scoring their third touchdown and executed a two-minute drill to score in 35 seconds to push the margin to 28-0.

Grove City scored three second half touchdowns and added a safety on an errant snap late in the fourth quarter.

Cawley passed the century-mark in rushing yards for the sixth time this season and eclipsed 1,000 yards on the ground for the season as he carried the ball 16 times for 107 yards. Grove City entered the matchup with the No. 2 rushing defense in the nation, only allowing 34.3 yards per game.

Brennan Boron (St. Mary's, W.Va. / St. Marys) led the Waynesburg defense with nine total tackles, four solo. Raymond Davis III (Palatka, Fla. / Crescent City) and Vinnie Heller (Jefferson Hills, Pa. / Thomas Jefferson) each had seven tackles. Jemuel Cypress (Seat Pleasant, Md. / Charles Herbert Flowers) had six stops and one tackle for loss.

Waynesburg hosts Thiel next Saturday in the Jackets' home finale.
