How it Happened

  • Randolph-Macon started the party early in the first quarter, scoring in just two plays. Jason Moore (Craven County, N.C./Havlock) took the jet-sweep handoff 41 yards, setting up the Lemon and Black in Guilford territory. On the very next play Mitchell Johnson (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) secured the edge and put the Yellow Jackets on the board with a 34-yard touchdown.
  • Guilford was moving the ball on its second drive of the game into Yellow Jacket territory. Brandon Watson (York, Pa./Central York) jumped a Luke Hyatt pass and took the interception back for a 71-yard touchdown. Randolph-Macon used the defensive touchdown to double its lead to 14-0 with 9:08 left in the quarter.
  • In the back half of the quarter, the Yellow Jackets used a ten play 72-yard drive that lasted almost five minutes to extend their lead to 20-0. Dante Casciola (Charlotte, N.C./Weddington) hit Cullen Martin (Moore, N.C./Pinecrest) on a 20-yard slant pass to score the touchdown. The scoring drive gave the Lemon and Black a 20-0 lead after one quarter of play.

Casciola threw his second touchdown pass of the afternoon with a 13-yard pass to Basit Qadri (Ashburn, Va./Rock Ridge). The Yellow Jacket lead would be extended to 27-0 with 7:56 left in the half.
  • The Lemon and Black only needed one play nearing the end of the half, as Jake Mulhern (Nokesville, Va./Kettle Run) hit a streaking Moore for a 62-yard touchdown pass with 2:12 left on the clock. The touchdown extended the lead to 34-0 for Randolph-Macon.
  • In the first half, the Yellow Jacket defense recorded three sacks, eight total tackles for loss and held Guilford to 57 total yards. Randolph-Macon would take a 34-0 lead into halftime.
  • The third quarter started with a 48-yard completion to Andrew Ryman (Bealeton, Va./Liberty-Bealeton) by Ryley Justus (Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca), setting up the Lemon and Black in the redzone. Jaxon Jones (New Hanover, N.C./Eugene Ashley) capped off the drive with a 1-yard rushing touchdown with 6:20 on the clock, extending the RMC lead to 41-0.
  • The Yellow Jackets held the ball for the final four minutes of the third quarter and carried a 41-0 lead into the final 15 minutes.
  • Trever Luther (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Senior) knocked in a 38-yard field goal to start the fourth quarter, pushing the lead to 44-0 for the Lemon and Black.
  • The late stages of the quarter saw Luther knock through another field goal, sending a 25-yarder through the uprights and increasing the Yellow Jacket lead to 47-0.
