WASHINGTON, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson College football head coach Mike Sirianni collected his 200th career victory in a 28-17 win over Case Western Reserve.
With his 200th career victory, Sirianni becomes the sixth active NCAA football head coach to reach 200, and 94th all-time in NCAA history.
"200 means nothing without 201, that's what I'm focused on. Reaching 200 wins means I've had a lot of great players and coaches throughout my career. Todd Young was with me for the first 150 of them, this is for him too," stated Sirianni. "We have plenty more to achieve this year."
Following the victory, Washington & Jefferson College President Dr. Elizabeth MacLeod Walls and Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Athletics Scott McGuinness gifted Sirianni a 200 career victories football. Sirianni then gave the ball to his father who was in attendance for his career milestone.
The rushing game was the difference for the Presidents in their closest Presidents' Athletic Conference game this season. Kobe Derosa (New Castle, Pa./Laurel) led all backs with 107 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Power back Andrew Sharp (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) rushed for 73 yards and reached the endzone once. Kellan Stahl (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) commanded the offense and compiled 184 passing yards, going 16-for-23 through the air. John Peduzzi (Hilton Head, S.C./Hilton Head Christian Academy) led all receivers with eight catches for 87 yards and touchdown.
The W&J defense came up with clutch turnovers throughout the course of the conference clash. Nathaniel Kadosh-Harris (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) forced two sack fumbles in the third and fourth quarters, recovering one. Brock Sherman (Copley, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) led the team in tackles, racking up 10 total on the night with 1.5 tackles for loss and five quarterback hurries. Dante DeRubbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) snagged his sixth interception of the year while collecting a career-high six tackles.
Both sides traded scores in the first quarter with the Presidents gaining an early edge on a receiving touchdown hauled in by Peduzzi, 7-3. The Spartans gained their first lead of the game in the second quarter with a touchdown, 10-7. The Presidents responded through success in the run game as Derosa trotted in for two rushing touchdowns on consecutive drives to take a 21-10 lead into the half.
The first drive out of the break, Kadosh-Harris came up big by creating a sack fumble recovered by Sherman. The fumble set the Presidents' offense up for a seven-play touchdown drive which was capped by a one-yard Sharp touchdown. The Spartans immediately responded in the following drive with a touchdown of their own to reduce the W&J lead to 28-17.
W&J managed the clock down the stretch in the fourth quarter. Kadosh-Harris called the game in the last CWRU drive with under a minute left the play in the fourth. The junior edge rusher strip sacked the Spartan quarterback and recovered the fumble to seal the 28-17 victory.
The Presidents will play their final regular season away game at Geneva on Saturday (Nov. 8). Kickoff has a scheduled start time of 1:00 p.m.
