November 22, 2025 Cortland Loses at Springfield, 21-7, in NCAA First Round After Pair of Fourth-Quarter Scores SPRINGFIELD, MASS. - Springfield quarterback TJ Welch ran for 140 yards and a touchdown and Bode Dunn rushed for 113 yards and two scores as the host Pride defeated Cortland, 21-7, in the opening round of the NCAA Division III tournament.
November 21, 2025 Cortland Football Game Notes vs. Springfield - NCAA First Round (Nov. 22 at Springfield) Cortland travels to Springfield for the opening round of the 2025 NCAA Division III tournament. The game is a rematch of a third-round game between the teams in Cortland last year, which Springfield won to advance to the national quarterfinals. This year's game is one of eight first-round contests in the 40-team NCAA playoffs; the winner will travel to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore for the second round on Nov. 29.
November 14, 2025 Cortland Football Game Notes vs. Ithaca - 66th Cortaca Jug Game (Nov. 15 at Ithaca) Cortland travels to Ithaca for the annual Cortaca Jug rivalry game. The game has potential NCAA postseason implications for both teams. Cortland (8-1), ranked 14th nationally by the AFCA and 20th by D3football.com, is already guaranteed an NCAA berth after winning the Empire 8 for the fifth straight year, but the Red Dragons could end up anywhere from earning a bye and hosting an NCAA second-round game, to traveling for an NCAA first-round game, based on the Jug outcome. And despite the game being a non-league contest, Ithaca (7-2) needs a win in order to have a shot to win the Liberty League title. The Bombers finished 6-1 in the conference. Union (6-0) and RPI (5-1) play on Saturday, and if RPI wins the league will finish in a three-way tie. Ithaca wins the tiebreaker if it beats Cortland, as the crucial tiebreaker is record versus teams at or above .500, including non-league games.
November 12, 2025 Cortaca going back to the Bronx The rivalry between Cortland and Ithaca is returning to Yankee Stadium in 2026, it was announced today. The game was played in the Bronx in 2022, when it resulted in the second-largest crowd to ever witness a Division III football game.
November 8, 2025 Cortland Clinches Fifth Straight Empire 8 Title with 44-14 Win vs. Brockport CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Cortland football team capitalized on four Brockport turnovers and the Red Dragons claimed their fifth straight Empire 8 title with a 44-14 victory over visiting Golden Eagles. Cortland (8-1, 7-0 Empire 8) won its 33rd straight league game, dating back to the final conference game of the 2019 season, and earned an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III tournament.
