    TROY, N.Y. - Three members of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) football staff have earned new titles and responsibilities, Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics Dr. Lee McElroy has announced. Serving in new roles on head coach Ralph Isernia's staff are Jeff Dittman, who is now the defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator, Nick Marcella, the new offensive coordinator, and Keith Larson, who is now the special teams coordinator.

    Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's (RPI) defense allowed only 245 yards of offense - just 28 rushing - and forced four turnovers as the Engineers defeated Union College, 20-14, in the Dutchman Shoes Trophy Game at Frank Bailey Field. Not only did RPI improve to 8-2 overall and retain the coveted trophy for the fifth straight season, it won a share of the Liberty League title (4-1) and secured the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs.

    TROY, N.Y. - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) scored four touchdowns in the fourth quarter and the Engineers held Ithaca College to -3 rushing yards while intercepting four passes in a 27-14 victory over the Bombers in a Liberty League contest at East Campus Stadium. Rensselaer improves to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference, while Ithaca is now 3-3 with a 3-1 league mark.

  • Rensselaer Defeats Buffalo State for Ninth Win

    NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Austin Amery scored the game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) football team scored 17 unanswered points in defeating Buffalo State College 20-13 in the Asa S. Bushnell Bowl Championship at Arute Field on the campus of Central Connecticut State University. RPI ends the season on a five-game winning streak, improving to 9-2 - which ranks second in school history for victories in a season, the third such time it has happened. Buffalo State falls to 7-4.

Avery, a quarterback who shared the honor with St. Lawrence University senior Mike Lefflbine, was one of 11 Engineers selected for year-end awards by the league's eight coaches.

    SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) defense allowed zero second half rushing yards and only 94 yards on the ground in total in leading the Engineers to a 23-10 victory over Union College in the 65th Dutchman Shoes Trophy Game. RPI improves to 8-2 overall and 6-1 in the Liberty League, sharing the conference crown with St. Lawrence University. The Engineers, who have now won three consecutive Shoes games, remain alive for a bid in the NCAA Playoffs and will find out if they earned an at-large bid on Sunday. Union falls to 0-10 and 0-7.

With the win, the Engineers improve to 7-2 overall and 5-1 in the league, keeping RPI's hopes of a conference championship intact. The Pride fall to 4-5 overall and 2-4 in the league.

    FOXBORO, Mass. - A pair of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) alumni meet for the first time in the National Football League when the Miami Dolphins visit the New England Patriots on Thursday night at Gillette Stadium. Andrew Franks '16 is the kicker for the Dolphins and Matt Patricia '96 is the defensive coordinator for the Patriots, who host the key AFC East matchup. The game will be aired live on CBS and the NFL Network at 8:30pm.

    TROY, N.Y. - Senior Nick Schlatz rushed for a career-high 115 yards and two touchdowns and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) football team had a total of 239 yards on the ground in defeating the University of Rochester 35-21 in a key Liberty League matchup at East Campus Stadium. The Engineers improve to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the league, keeping their hopes for a league championship alive. The Yellowjackets fall to 4-2 and 2-2.

    TROY, N.Y. - Jeff Avery and Logan Gaddar connected for three touchdowns and Thomas Bennett, Anthony Pilla and Alexander Greenidge combined for 43 tackles to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) football team to a 27-7 win over the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) in a Liberty League contest at East Campus Stadium. The Engineers have now won three straight games to improve to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the league. The Mariners fall to 1-3 and 0-2.

    TROY, N.Y. - Jeff Avery threw for three touchdowns, Mike Tivinis ran for a pair of scores and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) defense held Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to just 37 yards rushing as the Engineers defeated the Engineers 42-7 in a non-league game at East Campus Stadium. RPI improves to 2-1, while MIT falls to 0-3. The meeting was the first between the two schools.

    MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - Former Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) standout Andrew Franks '15 has been named the starting kicker for the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League (NFL). An undrafted free agent, he will become the first student-athlete from RPI to play in an NFL regular season game when the Dolphins play the Washington Redskins on September 13 (1pm).

    TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) football team's offense scored 35 first half points, while the defense held Norwich University to just 14 yards and one first down in the opening two quarters, and the Engineers went on to defeat the Cadets, 37-0. The game was a non-league contest that marked the beginning of the season for both teams.
