Tim Landis has resigned from his position as head football coach at RPI citing personal reasons. His resignation is effective immediately. Upon the recommendation of athletic director Jim Knowlton, Rensselaer’s Vice President for Student Life Timothy Sams has appointed the team’s offensive coordinator, Guido Falbo, as acting head football coach.

Landis was hired last March, replacing longtime coach Joe King, who retired after 22 seasons.

Falbo will serve as the acting head coach through 2012, replacing Landis, who coached the Engineers for one season, leading the 2011 team to a 4-5 overall record, including 3-3 in the Liberty League. In selecting Falbo, the Engineers passed over Bob Bodor, the team's defensive coordinator and former head coach at Colorado College.

“We appreciate Tim’s contributions to the program and to the department,” said Knowlton. “We are very fortunate to have a strong football staff, and Guido has proven he is ready to lead. He and the assistant coaches will provide continuity to our student-athletes, while also presenting tremendous opportunities for them to succeed on the field and in the classroom.”

Rensselaer will conduct a national search for a head football coach.

Falbo joined Rensselaer in April after serving as an assistant coach at the University of Massachusetts for the previous seven seasons before joining the Rensselaer staff. During his time at Massachusetts, Falbo coached the tight ends, running backs and the offensive line. He also held the role of recruiting coordinator beginning in January 2006, helping UMass to one of the top recruiting classes in the nation in each of his final four years.

A 1997 graduate of Central Connecticut State with a Bachelor of Science in physical education and exercise science, Falbo was a three-year starter at strong safety (1993-95). Following the completion of his playing career he spent the spring of 1996 as a student assistant coach for Blue Devils.

Maintenance in progress.
