Capital coach steps down

More news about: Capital
Capital has had just one winning season since Jim Collins left for Division II Saginaw Valley State. That was the 7-3 record in 2009 which helped Henry Stanford get OAC Assistant Coach of the Year and got Jim Bickel an assistant's job at Division II Ohio Dominican.

Capital football coach Henry Stanford has resigned from his position effective immediately, director of athletics Steve Bruning announced Tuesday, Nov. 13.

The Crusaders were 2-8 this past season, 2-7 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, their worst record since 1999.

In his three seasons at the helm of the program, Stanford posted a record of 12-18, including a 12-15 OAC mark. He became the 10th head coach in Capital football history in March 2010 and also served as a winter game manager for the athletics department.

The Crusaders wrapped up the 2012 season on Saturday with a 40-21 victory at Wilmington.

“On behalf of Capital University, I’d like to thank Coach Stanford for his contributions to the football program and the institution over the past three seasons,” Bruning said. “We wish nothing but the best for Henry and his family moving forward.”

Prior to becoming head coach, Stanford served for two seasons as offensive coordinator for the Crusaders. He was named OAC Assistant Coach of the Year in 2009 after helping guide Capital to a 7-3 record.

A national search for the position of head football coach will begin immediately.
