Walston-Hoover Stadium, Waverly – Series history: Wartburg
leads the all-time series 15-2. The Knights have won the last eight
meetings, including a 30-7 win at Mount Vernon last fall and a
37-14 home victory in 2008.

Game overview/notes –The Knights, off to their best start
since 2007, open Iowa Conference play Saturday. The clash with the
Rams is the first of back-to-back games on the FieldTurf at
Walston-Hoover with Loras College of Dubuque visiting Sept. 25 to
highlight Family Weekend 2010. Wartburg has two sets of
back-to-back home weekends with the Homecoming 2010 game against
Dubuque Oct. 23 and the annual battle with Luther College of
Decorah being the other. … Wartburg is 38-8 inside its
confines since the stadium opened in 2001. … In regards to
conference home openers, the Knights have won 11 of their last 12.
Buena Vista snapped an 11-game win streak, along those lines, with
a 27-15 win during last year's Family Weekend. … The 2-0
record has grabbed notice on D3Football.com's top 25 poll. Head
coach Rick Willis' squad received 19 votes this week. … In
the NCAA Division III statistics report through two weeks, several
Orange and Black players have high marks. Junior defensive lineman
Matt Tschetter of Milford is tied for third in sacks (2.5), junior
punter Robby Salmon of Mason City has the ninth-highest yards per
kick average (43.36 yards), junior return specialist Josh VanDenHul
of North Sioux City, S.D., is in the top 20 in kickoff return
yardage (29.3 ypr), and sophomore running back Reese Thompson of
Van Horne, with two straight 100-yard games, is 20th in rushing
yards per contest (143). Tschetter, Salmon and Thompson all lead
their respective categories in the league, while VanDenHul is
second. Wartburg's top team efforts, on the national statistics
chart, are sacks (T-11 – four), scoring defense (15th –
allowing only six and a half points per game), and turnover margin
(plus 2.5). … Junior quarterback Dan Stiefel of Sterling
Heights, Mich., kept Wartburg's 100-yard passing game streak intact
moving it to 35 with 166 yards at Gustavus Adolphus last weekend.
… Willis continues to edge towards the 100-win career mark.
He stands three shy of triple digits with a 97-24 record.
