FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

OFFENSIVE

Lee Carothers, WR, So., Sul Ross State

Sul Ross State sophomore wide receiver Lee Carothers (Austin, TX / Travis HS) caught eight passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Lobos to their first win of the season, a 37-30 conference victory at home over Howard Payne. Carothers, whose TD hauls went for 17 and 49 yards, also caught an 11-yard pass from quarterback Monte Morales on the game-winning, three-play drive. His first TD gave SRSU its first lead.

 

DEFENSIVE

Cooper Haralson, S, Sr., Hardin-Simmons

Hardin-Simmons senior safety Cooper Haralson (Celeste, TX / CHS) had a career-best 13 tackles – six solo – and forced a fumble that was recovered by the Cowboys during their 45-10 home win over fellow nationally-ranked team Mississippi College. Haralson spearheaded a unit that didn’t allow a touchdown in the first half.

 

SPECIAL TEAMS

Darius Wilson, RET, So., Mary Hardin-Baylor

Mary Hardin-Baylor sophomore Darius Wilson (Houston, TX / Cy Springs HS) erased McMurry’s only lead of the night by returning the ensuing kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown during the nationally-ranked Cru’s 43-31 road win. Wilson, who totaled 154 yards on four kickoff returns, allowed UMHB to go ahead 29-25 with 2:06 left in the third quarter with his long dash.

 

 

OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES

OFFENSE: Hardin-Simmons QB Justin Feaster was 25 of 31 for 335 yards and two touchdowns during a win over MC. . . . Texas Lutheran QB Mitchell Bunger had 98 yards rushing, including a game-winning 29-yard scamper, and 119 yards passing against ETBU. . . . McMurry QB Jake Mullin went 39-for-61 passing for 498 yards and five TDs during a loss to UMHB. . . . Howard Payne WR Andre Dean had nine catches for 196 yards and a score in a loss to TLU. . . . East Texas Baptist WR Kwame Spikes had seven catches for 117 yards and a TD against TLU. . . . . Mary Hardin-Baylor RB Quincy Daniels ran for 99 yards and a TD on 27 carries against McMurry.

DEFENSE: Texas Lutheran S Vernon Hughes had five tackles and an interception of ETBU’s final drive. . . . Mary Hardin-Baylor DE Micah Spicer had two tackles, a sack and blocked two kicks against McMurry. . . . East Texas Baptist LB Jordan Hayes had a career-high 13 tackles and forced a fumble against TLU. . . . Howard Payne LB Demetrius Cody had 15 tackles and recovered a fumble against SRSU. . . .  .McMurry SS Jimmy Terrell had seven tackles, a forced fumble and a sack against UMHB.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Hardin-Simmons’ Devin Carter took the second half kickoff back 88 yards for a touchdown against MC. . . . Sul Ross State’s Johnny Stewart returned a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown against HPU. . . . Texas Lutheran’s Montra’ Scott recovered a fumbles punt in the endzone to tie the game 7-7 with ETBU. . . . Howard Payne P Cote Schachel averaged 44.3 yards on three booms.
