AMERICAN SOUTHWEST CONFERENCE

FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

(Games of September 25, 2010)

OFFENSIVE

Brian Whitehurst, RB, Jr., Mississippi College

Mississippi College junior running back Brian Whitehurst (Fort Meade, FL / Wofford College) totaled 160 yards and four touchdowns on 22 carries in a 45-42 loss to Louisiana College. Whiethurst, who also caught two passes, came off the bench as the fifth-string running back and found the end zone four times in the second half to help the Choctaws erase a 24-7 deficit at halftime. The four rushing scores are the most in the ASC this season.

CO-DEFENSIVE

Evan Beaton, DT, Sr., East Texas Baptist

East Texas Baptist senior defensive tackle Evan Beaton (Whitehouse, TX / WHS) had seven tackles and a career-high three sacks to fuel a 23-21 home win over McMurry. Beeaton's sack total was also a single-game high in the ASC this season. Three of his tackles went for a combined loss of nine yards and he had a quarterback hurry. He spearheaded a unit that held the nation's top passing attack to just 276 yards and 4-for-18 on third down conversions.

Nate Janzen, LB, So., Louisiana College

Louisiana College sophomore linebacker Nate Janzen (Pottsboro, TX / PHS) recorded 22 tackles – nine solo – and forced a fumble to lead a 45-42 road win over Mississippi College. Janzen is only the third player in the ASC to reach the 22-tackle mark since 2003 season and came within four of the all-time league record. Only eight NCAA Division III players in the country had reached the total in a game this season. Two of his tackles went four a loss of four yards.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Brett Peddicord, K/P, Sr., East Texas Baptist

East Texas Baptist senior kicker/punter Brett Peddicord (Allen, TX / AHS) hit three field goals – including the game-winner – and averaged 41.4 yards on eight booms in a 23-21 home victory over McMurry. Peddicord hit a 19-yard field goal with 15 seconds remaining to seal the win and earlier connected from 29 and 39 yards out. He added two extra-points. Peddicord's long punt went for 54 yards and he pinned five balls inside the 20-yard line.
