FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

(Games of Sept. 1-3, 2011)

 

OFFENSIVE

Travis Tatsch, WR, Sr., Hardin-Simmons

Hardin-Simmons senior wide receiver Travis Tatsch (San Antonio, TX / Reagan HS) caught 13 passes for a school-record 265 yards and two touchdowns to fuel the Cowboys to a 41-14 win in a top 25 matchup with Coe. He just missed the conference record by 11 yards. Tatsch's scoring grabs went for 89 and 31 yards. His final catch came with 13:35 remaining in the third quarter.

 

DEFENSIVE

Peter Ford, LB, So., Louisiana College

Louisiana College sophomore linebacker Peter Ford (New Orleans, LA / Teurling Catholic) made seven tackles – all solo and four for a loss of 11 yards – with two forced fumbles and one sack to fuel a 32-24 triple overtime victory over Belhaven. Ford spearheaded a unit that pitched a shutout after regulation and held a team that scored 47 points the previous week to only 200 yards of offense.

 

SPECIAL TEAMS

Allen Cain, PK, Jr., Texas Lutheran

Texas Lutheran junior place kicker Allen Cain (San Antonio, TX / Stevens HS) hit a 52-yard field goal – one yard off a school record – during the Bulldogs' 31-28 win over Austin College. Cain, whose kick opened the game's scoring, was also good on all four extra-point attempts. He had three touchbacks.

 
 

OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES

OFFENSE: Texas Lutheran QB Mitchell Bunger ran for 117 yards and threw for two scores to lead a 31-28 win over Austin College. . . . Mississippi College QB Tommy Reyer threw for 190 yards and scored the game-winning touchdown on an 8-yard run in overtime against Millsaps. . . . Louisiana College WR D'Mario Parker had eight catches for 125 yards in a 32-24 triple overtime win over Belhaven.

DEFENSE: Texas Lutheran S Travis Bell made 14 tackles and added a fumble recovery in his first collegiate start. . . . Hardin-Simmons S Caleb Christian had seven tackles and an interception against Coe. . . . Mississippi College CB Jarrad Craine had four solo tackles and broke up four passes against Millsaps.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Mississippi College PK Chris Campbell hit field goals from 38 and 19 yards against Millsaps, with the 19-yarder tying the game with 4:14 to play in regulation. . . .Louisiana College Adan Olivares was good on a 38-yard field goal to tie the game toward the end of regulation against Belhaven. . . . Hardin-Simmons PK Scott Newberry hit two field goals and was 5-for-5 on extra-point attempts against Coe.
