Piatek Named Centennial Conference Defensive of the Week

More news about: Johns Hopkins

LANCASTER, PA - Johns Hopkins senior linebacker Ryan Piatek (Sewell, NJ/Bishop Eustace) has been named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the Blue Jays' 56-7 win over Susquehanna on Saturday. Piatek led a defensive effort that held the Crusaders to less than 180 yards of total offense - nearly 300 less than they accumulated in a season-opening win against Wilkes. In addition, Susquehanna's lone touchdown on the day came via its defense.

Piatek posted the first two-interception game of his career and ignited the victory over SU when he returned his first interception 34 yards for a touchdown to give the Blue Jays a 7-0 lead late in the first quarter. He added his second interception midway through the third quarter and added four tackles in the victory as well.

Piatek's first tackle against Susquehanna, which came on the Crusaders' second play of the game, was also the 200th of his career. He is JHU's career active leader in tackles as he now has 203 to his credit.

Johns Hopkins (2-0, 1-0 Centennia), which ran its overall winning streak to seven games dating back to last season with the win against Susquehanna, is ranked 26th in this week's d3football.com poll. The Blue Jays will travel to Moravian on Saturday (Sept. 17) for their second Centennial Conference game of the season. Kickoff is set for 2 pm at Moravian's Rocco Calvo Field.
