PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Carnegie Mellon University football team will travel to Washington D.C. to take on the Catholic University Cardinals on Friday, September 16 at 7:00 p.m.

The Cardinal and Gray are 1-1 and looking to bounce back off of the home loss that they suffered to Allegheny College, 33-13, this past Saturday.  It will be the first road contest for the Tartans and is the start of a three game road stretch.  Catholic will be hosting its first home game of the season when they welcome Carnegie Mellon.

The Cardinals are 2-0 and have shown some offensive firepower in their first two games.  Catholic scored 39 points in its first game and 45 in the second one.  Through the first two games, they have looked very one dimensional by only averaging 45 yards per game on the ground.

Friday's contest will truly be a battle of two different offensive styles.  Carnegie Mellon, led by head coach Rich Lackner, will plan on imposing their powerful and balanced run attack on the host Cardinals.  On the other hand, Catholic has averaged 381.5 yards per game with its passing attack en route to an undefeated start.

Defensively, Catholic has been less than impressive in its first two games.  The Cardinals have allowed 38.5 points per game to their first two opponents.

The Tartans and Cardinals do not have a long-standing history.  Friday night's matchup in our nation's capital will only be the third meeting all-time between the two universities.  Carnegie Mellon won the previous two which occurred in 1992 and 1993.

Lackner sat down to discuss what went wrong against the Gators and what his team will need to do to pick up the win in their first road game.
