Bethany's Amic Awarded PAC Player of the Week Honors

More news about: Bethany

After playing a key role in Saturday's 20-0 victory over Thiel, Bethany College freshman punter Stephen Amic has been chosen as the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Special Teams Player of the Week for Oct. 17.

The first-year punter averaged 45.6 yards over five punts in Saturday's win and dropped three inside the Tomcat 20-yard line. His second punt of the game sailed a career-long 65 yards, which is also the longest boot of the year by a PAC punter, and flipped field position, pinning Thiel at its own 16. After a three-and-out, Bethany took advantage of the short field to drive down for its opening touchdown of the game.

In addition, Amic also hit a 30-yard kick to the Thiel six, a 57-yarder that trickled into the end zone and a 37-yard punt to the Tomcat 15. Amic's work helped keep the Tomcats pinned back the entire second half and the Bison went on to post their first shutout since 2001.

Although he has the fewest punts in the PAC with only 22, Amic leads the league with nine kicks inside the opponents' 20-yard line this season. Overall, he is ranked fourth in the conference in average at 36.6 yards per kick.

In addition to his punting duties, Amic is also the Bison kicker. He has made 18-of-21 extra-points attempts and his 85.7 percent conversion rate is tied for tops in the PAC.

"Steve made a couple of hugs plays for us on Saturday," said Bethany head coach Tim Weaver. "The 65-yard punt in the first quarter changed the field position and the entire momentum of the game. He's been consistent punting for us this year and we're happy to see him get this recognition."
