ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Kalamazoo quarterback Nick Jones, Albion linebacker John Lesinski and Kalamazoo kicker Travis Braun its Players of the Week in football for games played October 29.
Offensive Player of the Week
Jones, a senior from Hopkins (Hopkins HS), accounted for 302 yards total offense and three touchdowns as the Hornets rallied from a 16-3 deficit to defeat Alma, 30-23. He completed 25 of 37 passes for 235 yards and two touchdowns, and added 67 yards rushing on nine carries, including a 27-yard touchdown run that was the game-winning score. Jones is being honored as Player of the Week for the third time this season and in his career.
Defensive Player of the Week
Lesinski, a senior from Grass Lake (Grass Lake HS), made a game-high 12 tackles and intercepted a pass to stop a fourth quarter scoring threat as the Britons defeated Adrian, 28-14, to clinch a share of the MIAA championship and a berth in the NCAA Division III playoffs. Lesinski is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
Special Teams Player of the Week
Braun, a junior from Huntington Woods (Berkley HS), kicked field goals of 30, 37 and 34 yards in Kalamazoo’s 30-23 win over Alma. He also converted all three of his extra-point kicks. Braun is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time this season and second time in his career.
