Western New England's Miller Tabbed NEFC Defensive Player of the Week

More news about: Western New England

MANCHESTER, N.H.--Alex Miller of Western New England University has been named the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced late Saturday.

Miller, a senior defensive back out of Seekonk (Mass.) High School, tied a school record with three interceptions, recorded five total tackles and had a fumble recovery to spark the Western New England defense in a 35-10 Presidents' Cup win over Westfield State, helping Coach Keith Emery improve to 6-2 in home openers at the school. Two of Miller's picks gave the offense great field position at the Westfield 35 and midfield. All told, he was responsible for four of the team's six takeaways against the Owls.

He now has a NEFC-leading five interceptions after just two games.

Miller becomes the first Golden Bear to earn NEFC defensive weekly honors since Philip Tsopanides on Oct 24, 2010.
