BALTIMORE, MD –- The Johns Hopkins football team added yet another ranking to its impressive resume today as the Blue Jays are ranked third in the first official NCAA South Region Poll of the 2012 season. This is first of two regional rankings that will be announced during the regular season by the NCAA.

The regional rankings are compiled by the official Regional Advisory Committee and are a more accurate representation of where teams stand in the eyes of the NCAA Selection Committee that will put together the bracket for the upcoming NCAA Division III Football Playoffs. Johns Hopkins (8-0, 7-0 CC) has already claimed at least a share of the Centennial Conference title and can earn the title outright and the accompanying automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs with one more victory.

Mary Hardin-Baylor holds the top spot in the south region poll and is followed by Wesley, Johns Hopkins, Waynesburg, Huntingdon and Washington & Lee in the top five (Huntingdon and W&L are tied for fifth).

The NCAA Playoffs will begin on Saturday, November 17 with 16 first-round games on campus sites. The bracket for the tournament will be set up in four, eight-team regions (East, South, North, West) and announced on Sunday, November 11 at 6 pm (live webcast on ncaasports.com).

In addition to ranking third in the south region, Johns Hopkins is also ranked ninth in the AFCA Poll, 13th in the d3football.com Poll and fourth in the Lambert Cup Poll.

Johns Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, November 3 when the Blue Jays travel to Lancaster, Pennsylvania to play Franklin & Marshall (6-2, 5-2 CC).
