The Western New England University starting offensive line has been named to the D3football.com/Scoutware Team of the Week, the media outlet announced on Tuesday. Pictured, left to right, senior Joe Grieci (Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge High School), sophomore Andrew McManus (Rowley, Mass./Triton Regional HS), junior De'Quan Murray (Springfield, Mass./Central HS), senior Jim Whitlow (Millis [Mass.] HS) and sophomore Nick Vanoudenhove (Enfield [Conn.] HS) were cited for their protection ability during a 38-12 New England Football Conference--Boyd Division win against Mass-Dartmouth.
The line helped the Golden Bears achieve a season-high 267 yards on the ground, 94 yards above its average, with 4.7 yards per carry. Kevin Cook rushed for 125 yards for his fifth 100-yard game in 2012. Also, the quintet gave quarterback John Krafick time to complete 16 passes to nine receivers without being sacked.
This marks the third time this season that the Western New England program has been recognized on the website's national team of the week. Tucker Schumitz was named as a kick returner on Sept. 18 and defensive back Alex Miller on Sept. 11.
This also signals the first time in program history that the offensive line unit has received this honor.
