Mamadou Soumahoro and Jesse Zubik lead the D3football.com 2017 All-South Region team. Soumahoro was named South Region Defensive Player of the Year, while Zubik was named the South Region Offensive Player of the Year.

The 2017 D3football.com All-Region teams are presented by the City of Salem, hosts of Stagg Bowl XLV, to be played on Friday, Dec. 15, in Salem, Virginia. Tickets are on sale now for Stagg Bowl XLV at Ticketmaster and the Salem Civic Center. Call 540-375-3004 to charge by phone or purchase online through Ticketmaster.

Berry coach Tony Kunczewski, who led the Vikings to a perfect 10-0 regular season and a playoff win in the program’s fifth year of existence, is the South Region Coach of the Year. It’s his first selection as a D3football.com regional Coach of the Year.

Soumahoro, a senior from Lawrenceville, Georgia, recorded 14 sacks and forced two fumbles from his defensive end position in helping lead Berry to the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs. He finished the season with 57 tackles, 38 of them solo, including 15 tackles for loss, four pass breakups and two blocked kicks.

Zubik, a senior from Sewickley, Pennsylvania, is the Presidents’ all-time leading receiver, holding school career records in receptions, yards and touchdowns. He finished the season with 84 catches for 1,408 yards with 17 touchdowns, despite Washington & Jefferson’s starting quarterback missing two-plus games with an injury.

The teams, selected in balloting by South Region sports information directors and D3football.com staff, were chosen from 240 nominations by Division III member schools. A total of 75 players were chosen. Players nominated for All-Region are eligible to be considered for D3football.com All-America honors, which will be announced the evening of Dec. 15, in D3football.com’s pregame coverage for Stagg Bowl XLV .
